Truthfully speaking, the most important elements that emerge from this charming surname of Canaletto are the most diverse and desirable relics from eighteenth century Venice. This group of paintings that enriched the general knowledge of the city invigorated by his paintings is so considerable that no one has yet been able to give a name to it all. Although all the public galleries have copies of these laboriously detailed cityscapes, the presence of some in private collections makes the location and authentication of Canaletto’s painted and engraved works difficult. Without a doubt, the entire inventory will never be completely carried out, not to mention that a general, illustrated monograph with analytical, critical and biographical information would require several folio volumes.
